Why do things that are closer to us appear to move faster than those that are farther away from us?

Here's a link (hopefully) explaining it:

Because the angle covered (in the visual field) is greater close up than it is far away.
Thus we get the (entirely false) impression that, since it's gone through a larger angle (in a given time), it must be moving faster.

(It's not something I am especially familiar with, but if you don't know the term 'Parallax' then it is not exactly a word you can guess.)

A meter stick closer 10 meters from you takes up less field of view than 100 meters away.

Uh yeah.
A metre at 10 metres subtends 100 millirad.
A metre at 100 metres subtends 10 millirad.
100 is less than 10, right.

That's because he is getting tired of running away.

TBH: the further I run away, the slower I get - but that's not a super-power. That's a lack of aerobic training.
