    Can you please explain...........

Why the density of ice is different from the density of water. I know the difference between the mass and volume bit, but is there anything else?

Would the density of an ice cube made from filtered spring water be different from the density of your regular pipe water?

And what if I made an ice cube from fruit juice, like Kool-Aid, I know the density would be different but why? Juice can't be lighter than water.......can it?

The difference in density is due to the crystalline structure of ice. The molecules have to spread out more to form crystals, so ice is less dense than liquid water, where the molecules just float around freely.

Juice is made of mostly water. There would be a small difference due to the dissolved sugars in the juice, since sugar is more dense than water, it would make the juice slightly more dense.

yes, because the minerals that erode from the pipe and into the water would change the density. if you take a swim in the dead sea, you will float easier because the water in the dead sea comes from a river that erodes away the rocks and takes the nutrients/minerals with it and makes it denser. the same thing happens on a smaller scale when you get tap/pipe water.

Some cities also add floride to the water to promote better dental health and chlorine to purify it.. Question: is floride or chlorine more dense than water?

Flouride is, I think also an anti-depressant.
The hand of time rested on the half-hour mark, and all along that old front line of the English there came a whistling and a crying. The men of the first wave climbed up the parapets, in tumult, darkness, and the presence of death, and having done with all pleasant things, advanced across No Man's Land to begin the Battle of the Somme. - Poet John Masefield.
