It occurred to me as I was doing an experiment with my class that it could be possible to create a contraption in which a egg could survive an impact from deathly heights. The question is though, could it be possible to create a contraption to fall with the egg and let it survive... on top of that, is it possible to make it's mass small?

What are your opinions? Do you know what I could build to experiment with this?

I think I'd give it a crash helmet and a parachute, If the crash helmet fitted eggsactly and it is of a matrial that would not distort or break on impact, the shell would not break - in other words an egg does not break because the internal and external forces cancel.

Megabrains idea will work so perfectly it would be boring.

If you want more fun when you experiment, then I would forget the parachute and the helmet and use balloons like they did with the mars rover. Inflate each balloon to a 2 or 3 inch size to protect the egg. See photo below.

I think that would be a kool experiment.

I Personally think this should be a competition where the unbroken egg with the shortest decent time wins.

first, i would just coat it with superglue and encase it in molten iron and let it cool. the glue would keep the shell from imploding and the metal wouldnt break. it probly wouldnt work, so i would use this in conjunction with some other method. this would just be a "last line of defense"
I don't suffer from insanity, i enjoy every minute of it

the road to succes is never paved or clearly marked
