    What would happen if you had a source of photons from all directions in a spherical type thing that all shone to a central point ?

    How would they manage that though ?
    I thought photons do interfere with themselves ?

    It's the same way that the air is full of radio waves which do not interfere with each other - ever. (until they hit the arial, turn into currents and get mixed then 'Intermodulation products are produced so from f1 + f2 = f1+f2+ (f1+f2)+(f1-f2)+ 2f1+ 2f2 + (2f1+f2) ad infinitum...

    Now any mathematicians out there may cry foul - but this is a very special case, I have left out all the Sin and proportional part to try and keep it all on the same server. 8) ....

    So. A photon can exist not only in two places at the same time, but many photons can also exist in one place at one time.

    I did not say or imply that, my belief is that that although they pass through space they do not occupy it, photons cannot be detected, there is simply no method of doing this [contrary to popular belief] - what you can do however is force one to be destroyed and measure it's effect on an electron. Look at the bright moon on a very clear night, that sky and space has zillions of photons passing through it, you cannot 'see' any of them but you know they are there because a tiny fraction are being absorbed and re-radiated by the moon. If you could 'see' photons passing through space the night sky would be at least as bright as the day, and your eyes would not work you would just 'see' a bright fog.

    Okay; so light really is just a wave form an "idea" if you like. It only becomes a particle when it hits matter.

    It's a travelling stress, leo. Like if you were at one end of a rubber trampoline and you whacked it, a wibble would wobble over to the other side. We could all whack one side apiece, and all our wibbles would wobble through the all the other wibbles. Kind of. If you catch my drift.

    Yes Farsight.......I understand what you are saying and this seems to be the most logical conclusion and is pretty much what I have always thought.

    Although - I have thought that it is a stress in something which would be rather like the "ether".

    However, whilst I truly believe in what you are saying; if Megabrain is correct in saying that photon's dont interfere with each other then we have a fundamental problem. Lets drop a stone in e pond and watch the ripples flow outwards, now drop another stone and the ripples will interfere with each other.

    I cannot see how light cannot interfere with itself. It seems almost illogical.

    He He ! Whoever said the universe was logical? - that is, why should it obey our perception of logic?

    Anyway, as to Farsight and the travelling stress, I can say we know that an electron produces a photon, we know that a finite time later the energy re-appears in the form of an electron being detected in a higher energy state, we know that we can place an object anywhere between point A and point B and the next photon headed from A to B will be intercepted and never arrive at 'B' - what we do not know is how this photon gets from A to B - it seems reasonable to assume it travels directly and within our dimensions - but that's where the problem arises, and the old particle wave theory dispute rears it's ugly head. We know that photons can 'cross' paths without interacting, - that essentially is all we know for sure. whether it's in a universe of it's own, whether it creates a 'quantum wormhole' for itself, is a travelling string bag, energy packet - we simply have no idea Farsight has his opinion, I have mine [which I do not intend to defend to anybody] and others have theirs.

    You are wrong with the ripples, they cross paths but do not interfere, they will happily seperate and go on their way, no interference [or new] ripples have been generated.

    (But I do believe that space has a massless, timeless substance; it would need to really to A) be stressed and B) expand)
