    Hello,

First post so go easy if i break a rule

Could someone be so kind as to tell me the effect on the capacitance in a parallel plate capacitor from using a "dielectric" which is made from two materials?

    Something along the lines of

    Metal Plate
    Dielectric Material One
    Dialectic Material Two
    Metal Place

Or is this something that would have to be determined experimentally?

    Thanks

    Chris.

I suppose it would be equivalent to:

    Metal Plate
    Dielectric Material One
    Metal Plate
    Dialectic Material Two
    Metal Plate

    or:

    Metal Plate
    Dielectric Material One
    Metal Plate
    Wire
    Metal Plate
    Dialectic Material Two
    Metal Plate

In other words, treat the capacitor as two capacitors in series with each capacitance determined according to the thickness of its single dielectric.

There are no paradoxes in relativity, just people's misunderstandings of it.

    ...................

You should be able to look up the constants from a chart unless your materials are exotic.

    Edit:
After thinking about it a bit what KJW said hit me.
