    Hi! Is it possible to cause a fusion explosion by just compressing hydrogen gas to incredible pressures instead of using lithium deuteride and fission explosions in the reaction to make the explosion? Like just magnetically compress hydrogen to such a small space and then let the reaction go out of control and explode?

    It also needs to be hot. But this is basically what stars do, initially.

    So the answer is yes it possible without a fission explosion and lithium deuteride?

    Possible but probably not practical. The nearest thing is probably inertial confinement fusion:
