    Does the creation of a black hole from a super massive star collapse create gravitational ripples in 4d space-time? I would think the quick release of such immense energy would be responsible for such phenomena.

    Gravitational waves are usually caused by a change in the acceleration (known as "jerk") of a body, due to another body.

    Since the mass black hole is going to be proportional to the mass of the star, a black hole isn't exactly "born" out of nothing. The mass remains proportional. So from a distance away it doesn't gravitationally feel like there is a big difference.

    The jets and spin is another topic.

    The gravitational collapse of a massive body is most definitely a source of gravitational radiation; refer here for a good summary of the state of affairs in that area of research :
