1: How close could a planet get to a black hole before it was uninhabitable.
2: What would be the first things you would notice if you lived on a planet that was in close proximity to a black hole, I assume extreme king high tides, but what else?
3: What would be the first thing to kill you living on a planet close enough to a black hole.

The mass that was in the sun is the same as what is in the black hole (Because we used magic, it lost no mass to going Nova). See- so we would have the same orbit and no 'new' gravitational effects.

Ok, close enough in what way? If you were on a planet in orbit around a Black Hole, you wouldn't feel any spectacular gravitational effects other than the gravity of the planet that you are on.
If the planet was close enough to a black hole that you could feel the pull of the black hole, you wouldn't have to worry about what would kill you first- you'd already have been dead.
Isn't the stellar vacinity of a black hole rather "hot" in terms of radiation generated by the stuff falling in and being acceleratedby gravity?
this usually happens if there is a companion star that the BH can steal matter from. if, in neverfly's scenario, our Sun isn't accreting anything, apart from a few comets, there would be no polar jets, accretion disc and x-rays.Quote:
