    Hello everyone,

I am currently reserching nuclear radiation with my 2007 Monitor 4 pocket geiger counter (www.geigercounters.com/Monitor4.htm)

I have some big issues with conversions. I know CPM -> uSv/hr, uSv/hr -> microrems, etc.
But how can I convert uSv to rads? My geiger counter uses a Cs137 calibrated LND-712 geiger muller tube, but i want to convery uSv to rads with Americium 241 and Radium 226.

AND also, i have trouble with my radium 226.

My radium 226 is in a mantle clock from c1955. radium 226 is an alpha emitter, but the radium is covered my glass, so the alpha's are blocked, and my reading on my geiger counter is about 400 CPM of betas and gammas. How can I figure out how many curies of radium 226 is in the clock with only beta and gamma readings? e-mail me at burnsrileyradstudy@gmail.com for more info. Thanks.

Well, ehm 1 rad is 0.01 J/kg. and A Sievert is 1 J/Kg. So unless you have trouble with orders of ten (in which case you shoulnd't own 226Ra) Maybe you should, you know include time? You could actually just look this up on the internet you know?

About the decay, well that is just tricky. Maybe check this one out:
    Ra-226 decay modes - Wolfram|Alpha

All in all, above questions are either easy to find, or deep intricate knowledge about decay widths. Please don't ask for people's mail adresses, this forum has a thing called personal messages

In the information age ignorance is a choice.

Thanks for the link, but I'm still learning nuclear physics (I'm in primary school learning it as a hobby. Thank Asperger's syndrome :P), so I can't figure out how to do it even with the site.

Is there any difference between nuclear radar and in simple radar?
