    Hi

In 2007 the LHC comes on line. It has the power to reveal some new exotic particles.... So, I've been wondering, is it possible that the LHC could produce a particle that could be dangerous? I know the tiny black holes would evaporate pretty quickly but what about some unknown particles not thought of. Like some surprise that won't go away.

I reckon it would be unlikely... for anything to be dangerous it would have to interact with normal particles, and surely anything really exotic produced would be produced in such small quantities as to not pose any threat. That's my reckoning, anyway.

I heard a theory somewhere that if you could go back to the site of the big bang you would find 2 dead aliens and a smouldering laboratory, I hope it was just sci-fi........

I still have tears in my eyes left over from SSC. It made me a proud Texan to know such a great project was being built so close to my hometown. When they cancelled it mid-way through, it broke my heart. Damn shortsighted politicians. To steal a line from Robin William's new movie: "Politicians are like diapers, they both should be changed regularly for the same reason"

My only hope is this new accelerator will allow scientists to uncover some great new discovery that benefits all of us.

By the way, where are they building LHC?
    Fixin' shit that ain't broke.

    It's at CERN.

    Cheers
