First off...posting a physical address on a publicly viewed board is not the best of ideas. You might want to take that down.

Second..if your going to ask us to fund your experiment, the least you can do tell us what you intend to spend the money on. It's not cool to beg for money in one breath, then say "oh I can't tell you what I'm going to spend it on..'cause it's a secret...and it's so brilliant, you might steal the idea"

When you are soliciting investors, it is normal to present a detailed plan of action to show exactly how you intend to get from idea to finished product. This is to prove to the investors that you have what it takes to finish, and they are not just throwing their money away on a pipe dream.

Please allow me to "play devil's advocate"

So far, all you have told us is that you want to build a "Dye laser" from scratch...but that's it. What do you mean "by scratch" ? Which components do you intend on machining yourself? Can you show us your design plan? Do you have a scematic for the power supply? How much experience do you have in building lasers? These are all questions someone who is being asked to "pony up the dough" would want answers to before cutting a check.

It's one thing to dream about building something...it's a whole different ballgame to ACTUALLY build it. I speak from experience, building a prototype of anything is difficult and very time consuming. You will always run in to unforseen engineering issues. You have given yourself 3 months to build this. That's not much time, especially if this is not something you can work 8 hours a day on, or have alot of experience in. In other words, I think you are trying to bite off more than you can chew.

I'm not trying to pee on your birthday cake...but what your preposting is more than a little ambitious. You might want to start smaller and work your way up.

    Fixin' shit that ain't broke.

Good luck in your project and all that, but if you expect me to fork out money for some kid who just wants to get an A in his science project you can forget it!
For all I know you could be the next Newton, but that doesn't make me want to invest in you. Besides, for all I know you could be a begger trying to earn some cash to fund your heroin addiction, and that really doesn't make me want to invest in you. And to be frank, if I was interested in funding a "dye laser" project, I would probably want to have the fun and experience of building it myself.

    Sorry

I can understand that you would feel offended if you were called a drug addict. However, I should like you to calmly read the rest of this post.

Let me point out to you that chamilton333 did not call you a drug addict. He stated that for all he knew you could be a drug addict or something. For all I know chamilton333 is a serial killer, a rapist and a Satanist. Have I insulted chamilton333 in making that remark? I don't believe so. chamilton333 has simply used a little hyperbole to emphasise his underlying point that we have no idea who you (or any one else on the forum) really is.
[chamilton333, I believe you could have expressed this with less aggression, and more sympathy. The style you used made it very easy for LEAP to interpret your remarks as an insult. Please take more care in future.]

    You remark
How about you guys check on google "Expo sciences"
If it's not too hard for you, you might be able to click the first link...
You may not have intended it that way, but the remark about 'if it's not too hard for you' sounded very much like sarcasm. It is best to avoid this when addressing people you wish to obtain money from. I am sure you already know this, but the trick is to keep it in mind, even when you feel you have been insulted and when you see the possibility of your project failing for lack of funds.

MacGyver1968 made some very useful points which echoed my own reservations. I can understand your desire to keep secret something you think may be truly original. That is sensible. Please realise, though, that this may make people less inclined to make any contributions. I don't know the statistics on this, but how many high school students obtain patents? Not many, I suspect. What are the chances we have been lucky enough to meet one on the internet?

Macgyver and chamilton333 have both cautioned you about the risks of publishing your personal details on the internet. You might want to consider those warnings.

I wish you luck with your project. I notice you have a team of five other students working with you. Is it beyond reason to think that you might be able to raise $125 each? I presume cars in Montreal require washing, for example.

If you are planning on a career in science and engineering this experience will be invaluable for you. The hard part about science is not necessarily the science itself: it's the funding. Good luck (and try to avoid the personal attacks when you think you have been insulted).

That depends upon his religious views, surely....

Hi billards, I am very happy of knowing that you have a very high end view of me...

"I was interested in funding a "dye laser" project, I would probably want to have the fun and experience of building it myself."

That was an unnecessary line... I do not need to know what you would do with a dye laser. This post WAS about funding a purely scientificly purposed experimentation, not about how selfish you are. In fact, I do not give a damn of what you would do with it. I would also appreciate, if you ever get one that you shove it up your ass.

NOTE FOR ALL ASSHOLES: I will not ask for funding ever again on www.thescienceforum.com however I will stay active on this forum

Wow, you've been waiting all this time for me to answer back? You are really off it. I can't belive you've been waiting that long for me to insult you again for you to give me another opinion about me. I don't think you understand how much that project means to me. In fact, I don't think no one does. This is not just about me fighting for money... It's about me showing you that I am not horsing arround. You guys should check expo sciences at the end of december, check out who won.

L.E.A.P. I have asked you politely to try to avoid reacting when you think people have insulted you. Please desist immediately.

We understand this project is very important to you. Understand, equally, that it means diddly squat to most of the members here. Getting all in a tizzy because things are not going your way is no excuse for losing your cool.

I notice you haven't offered any response to my suggestion of doing car washes to fund your project. Or some similar idea. If your commitment is as great as you say, how about putting the effort in there.

that doesnt affend me. and, i wasnt implying that LEAP is some drug addict, only that others have been hoodwinked in the same way, that some people WILL stalk you, and to be careful who you give your address to. i guess I could of been more direct. no offense to anyone on this forum. unless someone is a real stalker. than i will offend them.

i did not mean to act childish, only put out a warning. i understand that at your age you would take this as a insult.

Little of a misunderstanding. I will develop a website selling minerals that I have in a huge quantity. For he moment, a company I will not name will loan me money, I will reimburse with the profit made on the site. I have great interest, but I have studys too, a website will need management once a week, and will bring in profits as long as I have publicity, wich I will look for when I get more time.

Sory for may bad attitude, as you can see with my newest posts, I have cooled down, I now discuss subjects with billards; as for chamilton333, I would appreciate that you write more clearely when you speak to me; it can be misunterpreted...

just another idea.. use E-bay but have a site that atomatically redirects to your item.. my old web addres was http://www.angelfire.com/mech/engineer2 but i used a website called www.dot.tk and my new web is www.sciencetheories.tk , but this just redirects you to my original one. use something like www.minerals.tk, that redirects to whatever mineral you are currently selling.
