I need a tiny bit of help understanding, what is a false vacuum. I understand it to be a section of space which is not at it's lowest energy state, but why is that dangerous, why don't the atoms that are there simply rearrange to be in their lowest energy state. Why isn't it common?Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Never heard of "false vacuum". What do you mean by the term?

The false vacuum is a state where the energy level of the inflationary field filliing space is not at it's lowest value. This is what is drinving inflation. If a region of space ever transitioned into a lower level, we might see an expanding bubble of space/time with different parameters, which would destroy the known universe.

    Have a good day.
    Its the way nature is!
If you dont like it, go somewhere else....
To another universe, where the rules are simpler
Philosophically more pleasing, more psychologically easy

So is the field what we know as dark energy. And so it's basically when that force is not at the lowest possible energy state. Why would it create a bubble in space time if it 'became' the lower energy state. Does that force still have electrons or is it a different change in state? But thanks for the basic definition, it helped a lot.
