I needed some information, thought you all might be able to help.

Now, this is going to sound rather silly of me, but I've always been facinated by the concept of an artificial gravity machine, very much DBZ. As I don't have anywhere near the Physics background to concive such a device, I've decided on somthing a little simpler.

What I've thought of is having a powerful electrical magnent under the floor, and have padded clothing with metal weights inside of it.

My question is, would it be possible to get such a large magnent?

Are there magnents with adjustable strengths?

Would their be any possible health issues from the electromagnetic field generated?

    Thanks for any help.

    yes

    yes electromagnets

    none known yet

for your information there is magnets strong enough to acctualy magnetise organic matter so its able to float in midair. and other strong magnets with superconducters have archived a decrease of gravitational strengh wich made a none-magnetic weight weight less

So, asides from finachel reasons, there is absolutly no reason not to do this, or why it can't be done? Awsome. *Runs off to contemplate and design clothing and room specifics.*

    reason to not do it:
    expensive
    hard work
dangerous to construct since some things are probebly big enough to crush you

    1: yes
2: okey, might burn out everything using electricy in the neiberhood but go
3: disturbing. and somethign could be heavy enough to kill you. but its just a approximate guess

uh, well, your right about that second one. I can see myself possibly getting in some trouble for that.

I suppose a good question would be approximatly how much energy would I be using to generate...oh say each pound of downwards pull?

Does the required energy incress at an incressing rate, or is it a stable incress per pound of pressure?

Would personal methods of Generating energy, say windmills or solar panels, be fesable alternatives from sucking from the neighborhood?

And I was just kidding about the pain part...mostly.

At long distances, magnetic fields obey an inverse square law. This means that the field strength is inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the magnet.

Umm I think it is stable but I am not sure.

Of course it would! But i would like to see your whole back yard full of solar pannels powering a 2 ton electromagnet :-D

Alternate energy... or should we rather say alternate life?

yeah, I guess another good question would be how large of a magnet I would need for a room say...20by20 feet?

How much energy does a good solar panel produce? Are there better ways to produce power?

It depends on your budget, you could buy a solar panel that doesn't do **** at canadian tire for 30$ or you could buy a performant one the size of a dest for say, 3000$

Solar pannels are efficient, to give ou an idea, in Germany, a city i think is just houses with solar pannels on their roofs; and the city only runs on solar energy soo I think a roof full of solar pannels could do the job for your electromagnet, your washing and drying machine, dishwasher and other appliances running all at the same time for a day (I am not sue for a day but it seems much much like it)

i take it your new, plz use SI units
do some easy calculations and low size experiments to determen that. like use a electromagnet a ball or somehting of metal. then swich the electricity until you reach excaly where its able to hold the metal. then calculate what current you have, with it you can easly calcualte magnetic flow (tesla) and then you´ll also see how much force it is since you know the weight of the object

Rather than try to magnetize an entire room, it would be much easier to just magnetize the suit. In a zero-g environment it wouldn't require too much force to keep you attached to the floor. It would also be easier to turn on and off to allow for walking.

the best way to get AG is to simply rotate.
Around and round the world go. no one knows where it stops
    or you can simply accelerate.
or to spare metal use super conducter magnets to store enough energy on the floor (the space it occupies) so its amounts will produce a spacial curvation equalent to earths
