Why efficiency of thermionic converter is only 20% Thermionic converter - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
while efficiency of ignitron http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury-arc_valve, Ignitron - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia is up to 98%? They seem to use basically similar
principle of operation by heating cathode.

They do not perform the same function. The mercury arc rectifier converts alternating current to direct current. The thermionic converter converts heat to electic power.

What will happen if we will pass current through electron emitter cathode but there will be no anode
where electron could jump? Could we create in this way some space charge? And what physical bodies
could interact with such a space charge?
