The reason why the sky is blue is due to molecules in the air. Firstly we need to know that white sunlight is made up of lots of different colours. When the blue light of sunlight passes through the sky it bounces off partials like oxygen and atoms which are floating in the air. Some colours of light travel through the air better than others, so because violet and blue colours have the shortest wavelengths they get bounced around the most making the sky blue/violet. When we look into the sky our eyes only see blue and not violet. This is purely because our eyes are more sensitive to blue light than violet, so that is why we perceive the sky as blue.

For more details, see c186282's excellent posts (#22 and #89) of an earlier thread here on this subject: Can Rayleigh Scattering Explain the Skyís Blue Colour?

One should ignore the posts by galexander in that thread, despite his being the OP. Posts by danina should also be ignored, as they are similarly full of strong assertions that are contrary to reality.

Thanks -- I was also careful not to copy it in my reply.

I suspect it was a hit and run spammer, but since it was unclear, KALSTER took the conservative route.

We'll see if a second post is ever made. I bet 200 quatloos no

I opened the link and all it was was a short description of why the sky is blue with the page filled with click adds. Looked pretty much like a moneymaking site to me.
