    Electron beam.jpg

    Hello,

Ive observed this strange phenomena in my IEC (Inertial electrostatic confinement) fusion reactor (commonly called a Fusor). When the pressure is around 200-50 mtorr I can observe a strange plasma jet eminating from just outside the inner reaction region. I have verified that the plasma jet has a negative charge and that it indeed comes from the reaction zone and not the other way around. I have not recieved any clear answer to why the electron beam is formed and wonder if any of you have any ideas to why and how the electron beam is formed?

In the picture applied above the jet is clearly visible, the gas used in this expement was only air, the pressure was about 150 mtorr and the inner grid was charged to a negative potential of 2 kV relative to the chamber.

don't think its an E beam, more likely you are hitting just the right pressure for the O2 N2 to ionize, like a neon sign.

I suspect that it is an electron beam. Wikipedia asserts that in an inertial electrostatic confinement device, protons are accelerated toward the center. If the protons come from a single direction, then the circumstances are in place to send an electron beam into the opposite direction. (It is really the same thing to some extent.) It would seem that the architecture of the device includes a disk of relatively positive potential is presented to plasma held at the reverse potential. Some CRT electron beams are produced in that fashion: Electrons released by thermionic emission are attracted to a focusing anode (positive electrode) that is a sleeve or disk with a hole in the middle. Off-center approaching electrons "see" greater attraction toward the larger sector of positive surface toward the opposite side. Range from electron to surface means nothing: increased proton count within scope is balanced by inverse square law of range per particle. Each electron is thus steered down the middle where there is no difference.

I don't know this stuff but... perhaps the magnetic forces from the electrons itself has self-organize to form a jet? Because there's no other forces except magnetism and electrostatic at work here, and each electrons and particle is emitting its own magnetic field plus from the one in the coil... so... everything will interact with each other and that could yield complex behaviour not designed for... (like this jet)

One idea that come to mind is the jet from black hole. A black hole is a spherical potential field but the disk that surrounded it is shaped like a disk and not a sphere. Furthermore, this disk produce a magnetic field strong enough to accelerate particle away almost at speed of light, and it form a jet just like this (perhaps...).

At a science fair at my university, I built a Tesla coil and connected the high voltage terminal to a UHF electron tube. The gas within the tube glowed a beautiful purple color and formed miniature clouds that drifted in various directions. There is a small amount of gas in electron tubes that evidently ionized.

Why should a magnetic field be sought as the force to accelerate electrons away? A fiber of electrons lying along the rotational axis of the disk finds the mutual repulsion of electrons extremely prone to exert acceleration away from the black hole in both directions. Of course the black hole might seem to be an attractive gravitational force in the opposite direction, and probably should have drawn electrons into itself until its gravitational attraction was counteracted by the consequential rise of its electrostatic repulsion for an electron. That would place electrons into a desert category of food for a black hole. It would have to eat some more electrically neutral food to warrant a miserly dose of additional electrons. Meanwhile, the remaining electrons supplying the electron beam would be free to go.

That supply of electrons, certainly not from the black hole itself, is planned soon for attempted disclosure under New Hypotheses.
