simple quesion, yes or no. the question can be open to interpretation too, i just want to see opinions and discussion on the idea.

I do remember reading somewhere that they have created a time travel device already. only particles can time travel through it and time travel is limited to when the machine was first turned on, nothing can travel to a time prior to that.

edit: is it a bad thing that 6 of the top 13 posted topics on the physics forum are posted by me? they are all valid questions but would this be annoying any1 or considered spam?

Not sure if you've read about time dilation:
    http://www.phys.unsw.edu.au/einstein...e_dilation.htm

It's not exactly 'traveling' through time but you age slower. Therefore, if you would travel at an incredibly fast speed for an extended period, you'd age slower allowing you to live longer.

As for truly traveling through time (ie; back in time), I've always thought of it to be unlikely.. Think about it if time travel is possible, why haven't we had any visitors from the future?

yeah I know about time dialation.

and as for "why havnt we seen visitors from the future" there could be SEVERAL answers to that.
a)they may only be able to travel back to the time that the time machine was activated

b)in the future, who knows, it may be against the law to tamper with the past

c)we already have had visiters from the future but they make a point of going un-noticed

d)life forms may not be able to survive time travel

e)it may not be easy or even possible to choose when and/or where you "time travel" too

f)its possible but we on earth blow ourselves up before we ever figured it out

g)any time you travel back into the past, you go to a parralel universe on a tangent with the standard timeline

    h) its possible but requires MASSIVE amounts of energy that are beyond reach (lol im kinda jst makn things up now seeing how many reasons i can come up with)

    i) time travel destabalizes the universe (rofl ok ill stop)

    there is a theory out there where the universe starts; bigbang,, then gets to the end, but then reverses back to the begining; where the big bang happens again and thus everything else;

so if you could escape "times gravity" long enough.....

like; to go back 20 years; you actually freeze yourself for; a cycle of universe - 20yrs

If this were so you wouldn't notice it. It would be as if it never happened at all as far as you were concerned and I can't see that there would be any evidence of it having happened either

NO! only the traveler would have knowledge of previous events, when going back, also it would follow "back to the future" rules, this is where parallel dimensions kicks in and changing past events skews the time line into a different parallel reality, which exists not now, but one universe cycle from now. like traveling down a sin wave, since he didnt really go back, but just jumped in to the next cycle( minus 20yrs ) so it would seem to him that it was the past
