Is teleportation really possible? It truly defies all the law of physics. Are scientists really working on it?

    1. Yes.
    2. It does not defy the laws of physics.
    3. Yes.

    For example:
    H. de Riedmatten, et al "Long Distance Quantum Teleportation in a Quantum Relay Configuration" Phys. Rev. Lett. 92, 047904 (2004)

    Abstract
A long distance quantum teleportation experiment with a fiber-delayed Bell state measurement (BSM) is reported. The source creating the qubits to be teleported and the source creating the necessary entangled state are connected to the beam splitter realizing the BSM by two 2 km long optical fibers. In addition, the teleported qubits are analyzed after 2.2 km of optical fiber, in another laboratory separated by 55 m. Time-bin qubits carried by photons at 1310 nm are teleported onto photons at 1550 nm. The fidelity is of 77%, above the maximal value obtainable without entanglement. This is the first realization of an elementary quantum relay over significant distances, which will allow an increase in the range of quantum communication and quantum key distribution.

When physicists say "teleportation", they are describing the transfer of key properties from one particle to another without a physical link.
    From an above link.
    No mass is actually "teleported".

Can mass be teleported from one place to other?

Do you need to transport mass, if you can transport the characteristics of a given mass?

Remote reconstruction of a scanned item with spare particles, "Beam me up Scotty". But then what happen's to the "conscience"? For now science fiction-future.

There's FTL travel by "Einstein-Rosen bridge"; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wormhole. Theoretical only of course, and requiring "exotic matter of negative energy" that probably doesn't exist.

And for some crackpot pseudoscience; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philedelphia_expieriment.

If by teleportation you mean transport of mass from one place to another, then certainly it is possible. That is what railroads and truckers do for a living.

If by teleportation you mean transport of mass from one place to another instanteously, then it is impossible. That would be a gross violation of special relativity. Even just transmitting information to duplicate the mass at a remote location instantaneously violates SR.

I have seen quantum entanglement; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_entanglement, refer'd to as "quantum teleportation". Whoever started that should be beaten and spat upon, or at least tarred and feathered.

Instantaneously is a hard word. If you could get just close to the speed of light, in any reasonable distances for human perception it would be instantaneously.
