    I really want to know how scientists are currently researching dark matter

    The current best guess for what dark matter is (AFAIK) is that it's made of WIMPs (weakly interacting massive particles), so current research is aimed at detecting those (or failing to do so). Unfortunately, when they say weakly interacting, they mean it. Some of the best detectors expect around 2 detections per year, so it's a slow process.
