You need to learn about damped oscillations. If the system is overdamped, it will approach zero asymptotically without crossing. If it is underdamped, then the amplitude still approaches zero asymptotically and the number of oscillations will depend on your arbitrary definition of the amplitude where it is considered to be at rest.
What do you mean by lesser the oscillations and why do you think it would be lesser with a higher spring constant?
I thought higher the spring constant higher the damping. Is there anyway u can find how many times a spring can oscilate in practical situation after damping given its spring constant and elongation at the beginning?
No, the spring constant has nothing to do with damping. You need more information to solve the problem. Do a google search for damped oscillations and read about it.
As an alternative the OP might read a book on ordinary differential equations, and pay attention to the section on linear second order equations with constant coefficients. Boyce and DiPrima is a good one.Originally Posted by Harold14370
