I'm new and don't know where to place the topic

the Holograms in the star wars series, images displayed in air, is this possible ?
can we manipulate air molecules to absorb/emit light ?

Didnt Japanese already invented that technology?
I think i once saw it on TV.
Well , it could be possible we can manipulate air molecules, but i think that can only be achieved under certain conditions.

Radiation sometimes causes horrible mutations, which could cause horrific abominations.

I think the Japanese accomplished something similar by ionizing some spots in the air using IR laser, however it consumes a lot of power to make 100 dots, which is not a practical resolution in 3d.
I don't think it's practical to depend on ionization of air molecules due to the high power consumption and safety reasons.

I wonder if we can excite molecules using electric or magnetic fields to the desired energy level, and allow them to relax to emit photons.

something else, some materials can modulate light under mechanical vibrations, a high frequency sound pulse may change the path of light in the air. the interference pattern from sound waves can act as diffraction gratings or GRIN lenses.

    any thoughts?

I always wondered if there was a way to make the intersection point of two laser beams glow (inside some medium other than air, almost certainly).
