I am currently doing an investigation into the phenomenon of a wire with a weight attatched passing through a block of ice without cutting it.
This happens through the melting of ice under the wire, which passes through the water layer and the water refreezes above it.
I have three possible sources of melting and refreezing so far but I would love to hear any other suggestions of why this happens.
The three explainations I have so far are:
    Pressure melting
    Heat conduction
    Frictional heating
Currently my theory involves a combination of pressure melting and heat conduction to explain the phenomenon.
