Yep. Take a space elevator, and launch a really long copper wire at the top of it into space. A NASA (Nannies Against Serious Advancement) did this with a shuttle once, where they converted the shuttle's orbital velocity into current by driving the wire along with the ship through the earths magnetic field.
No. not without some stationary point relative to the Earth. An orbit would work; moving and electric field within the Earth's magnetic field would generate electricity, but it would also decay the orbit, so you would have to use just as much energy to maintain orbit.
Tidal power stations do it all the time.
oops, your right, my bad :? For some reason I had it in my mind that the magnetic field was not attached to the earth. However...what if the core spins at a different speed than the crust?
