What is the most likely cause of earth's end?

Swallowed by the sun, when it bloats to a Red Giant star.

oh quite obviously destruction by the vogon constructer fleet for a new hyperspace bypass.

that or someone follows through with Tesla's plan to crack the earth like an apple

Actually, the Mythbusters already tried that one. It didn't work.

That might be the cause for the end of the human race. And if it is so, they deserve it. But the Earth couldn't care less about this.

Probably not, but that rather depends on the magnitude of the idiocy.

Yes! The sun beind a red giant is the highest probability. But it also might be destroyed by a huge asteroid or may! may! be destroyed by a black hole.( though i dont think there's much chance!)

Earth cannot be swallowed by sun, unless sun becomes supernova. One among many hundred stars become supernova. Red giant can scorch earth and burn every other species on earth, even bacteria. Only thing left out would be the rock planet, just like any other uninhabitat planents in our own solar system.

Whether or not the sun grows big enough to engulf Earth's orbit, it could still swallow Earth if the increase in the solar wind density is great enough to create enough drag to cause it to spiral inwards.

BTW, the only planet in our solar system close to what you described is Mercury. About half of the planets aren't even rocky.

I suggest you read this and the references in there. The sun could extend up to 2 astronomical units, when it reaches the red giant phase.

I don't wish to get picky ..... hold on a moment, I guess I do.

Jupiter and Saturn are thought to have rocky cores with a mass of around five, to ten, or even twenty times that of the Earth. The situation is debated for Uranus and perhaps Neptune. I think something composed of rock that is twenty times as massive as the Earth would justify the adjective rocky.

    Picky's fine.

I wasn't aware that Jupiter is currently thought to have a rocky core. Last I heard was something about a metallic hydrogen core. The rest of the gas giants were just a guess on my part.

What I meant was that a airless, burnt rock only currently describes Mercury.

You need the rocky core of that mass to accumulate the hydrogen gas from the accretion disc before it gets swept away by the powerful solar wind and coronal mass ejections in the sun's T-Tauri phase.
