Are there any equations or a set of equations that link the pressure of a soccer ball to the distance that it travels?

Also considering a football (rubgy league, gridion) when kicking one of these why does it go further when you kick it upright rather than when it is on its side??

...why does it go further when you kick it upright rather than when it is on its side??
This has to do with the fact that the swinging foot can more easily get below the center of the upright ball and send it upward at its optimum 45-degree angle. A ball on its side tends to travel at a flatter angle, which would result in less distance.
