sry if already a topic, remember reading a similar thread in here (or not)...and the all too famous "fallen tree in the middle of the forest" concept..

many believe absolute truth does not exist,,,but somehow i am not convinced/ or able to grasp that.....just that there was no one to observe the tree fall down/brought down does not mean what actually happened cannot be called the truth.

which makes me wonder,,,,can a Fact be called Truth?

for ex, the fact that i am sitting before my comp right now typing this....seems like an absolute truth (fact) that cannot be otherwise (ofcourse considering relative envs. we can say that we are all plugged to a wire at the back of our heads and in that case, nothing can be called absolute truth, or even a fact)

looks like from the point of view of an enclosed logical/physical/.. system, governed by its own laws,,,,truth MIGHT exist

    any comments..

Well, a priori truths definitely exist. They are truths which are true by definition or as a consequence of axioms: for example, “1 + 1 = 2”, or “there are no nonzero integers a, b, c and positive integers n > 2 such that an + bn = cn.

A posteriori truths may be more problematic. I will let other people deal with them.

Here's one fundamental truth; I think, therefore I am.

    ^^ agreed.
saying 1+1=2 is true,.....is something we defined, or a result of our imagination, which by its basic definition is set to be "true"....and yes like you say exists...or should i say must exist...

let me try and put it in a better way,

    1) is 1+1=2 true?
    2) is the statement '1+1=2 is true' true?

    3) is the earth round?
    4) is the statement 'earth is round' true?

only difference i guess between 1,2 and 3,4 is first set is a priori, while second is a posteriori
as you probably know 2, 4 can be true or false, independent of whether 1,3 is true or false. 2,4 is derived truth or projected truth which usually depends on the presence of an observer....and also often considered in the question "does truth exist"

what i am really interested is in (3)....some thing which IS a fact....and hence IS true...
unless someone can explain otherwise,,,which is what i am hoping for

Of all the wonders in the universe, none is likely more fascinating and complicated than human nature.

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe."

"Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence"

    -Einstein
