Humans have been evolving at a very high rate. We can now manipulate many chemicals and life-forms. We can make glowing plants and fruit flies with legs in their eyes. A few years back, we weren't so advanced. I mean, even look at the average speed at which we're traveling each day. Sixty miles per hour is slow to us.
    We can fly.
    We can go to space.
    We can go under water.
We're trying to eventually live in space.
We understand a lot about the physical universe, and our understanding is quickly growing.
We can cause major destruction (atomic bombs), and at the same time create (buildings, etc.)

With all this advancement and continued progression, I often wonder how far humans will get. Will we eventually become 'gods'? Like, we have so much understanding that we can create and destroy at will; defy many physical concepts (we've already defied many natural concepts, as well as gravity).

What do you think, will we eventually evolve into 'gods'?

Whence comes this logic: no evidence = false?

what you describe is cultural evolution which is going at an exponential rate, but tbh not much visible evolution has happened to our species in the last 100,000 years

so my idea is that not much will happen in the foreseeable future until the moment natural selection gets a chance to do its work - our current cultural evolution seems to have put that sort of selection on hold (unless we start doing genetic engineering on ourselves ?)

Yea, I didn't want to sound condescending by saying that I'm speaking specifically about cultural evolution: I assumed everyone would know it (obviously) isn't physical evolution.

But, regardless, we are heading towards being gods.

maybe only from our point of view - from theirs it might look like they're still ordinary joes but those unlucky bastards from the past were medievalists (or worse, untermensch)

In many ways, I'm sure the ancients would think we are gods already, but we haven't gone to the point of augmenting our own bodies enough yet to be immortal and such, like the greek gods are/were supposed to be, I guess.

    No.

The separation between deities and non-deities is simply a matter of scale. Nothing more.

It has been my personal experience that the gods are no less cruel petty or jealous as any mere mortal. They just live in bigger houses. You say that we can do all of these remarkable things so thus, perhaps we are or may become devine. Well, I can tell you one thing: There is no "We". Only you and I. And I do not feel very godlike on this day - nor any other.

As long as a man is forced to take risks, weigh his chances or reckon with one form of strife or another - Then he is still just a man.

I don't know about you guys but I don't feel like a god just yet.

Isn't the decisive difference between deities and regular beings that gods are not constrained by anything, not even by the laws of nature? Don't they either control, make, or impersonate nature themselves?

I can see that people have evolved to understand our tiny place in the universe to some extent. We even control nature in some minor sense, but mostly we still pee in our pants when faced with a puny little hurricane or earth quake. However, none of our development, even in the most radical interpretation, allows us to defy the laws of nature. I don't see that we are heading there, either.

You think you're a god, just because you happen to know a little bit about the limited world you live in? Must be some kind of power trip the cockroach feels the first time he catches a glimpse of the sun.
