I want to have some fun with idioms and metaphors, because I use them a lot and I like them. So let's play a game and see what kind of discussion it inspires

Basics: Express an idea of your own (relevant to each former post in the thread, of course, so we don't get off track), and then challenge someone else's idea using common idioms and metaphors or ones that you make up (or a balance of the two).

Here's my first idea: becoming "enlightened," in reality, is having already walked thousands miles in everyone else's moccasins, and then suddenly realizing you have your own pair.

This thread needs someone to break the ice. I'll put my thinking cap on and see what pops up. Oh, the light bulb just went on. I just needed someone to hit the switch. It's always the darkest before the dawn and you can take that to the bank. You know I'm right as rain and my advice is as good as gold.

All that belongs to human understanding, in this deep ignorance and obscurity, is to be skeptical, or at least cautious; and not to admit of any hypothesis, whatsoever; much less, of any which is supported by no appearance of probability...Hume

Better suited to General Discussion than Philosophy, methinks.

You can take it to the bank, but what if you kick the bucket before you get there? Say, the dawn doesn't come?

(And, Daffy. You're probably right. I was trying to scroll through the forum before just clicking what I kind of had in mind. I guess we can try to keep it parallel with thought experiments and contemplative dialogue)
