So in the 1950s, after the Second World War, After the Korean War, the Youth of the World had tradition sucked out of them. Just like after the First World War. The Roaring Twenties. The Flappers. The Dance Styles, The Hem Lines, the Bottom shakers, the grabbing of extra freedoms to be outrageous. But the Depression and the Second World War came along and put a stop "" to all that nonsence "".

Not so after the Second World War.

A Socially shattered Society had let co-hesion slip from their grasp.

If it had not been for Communism and Capitalism and the emergence of Nations from under the control of European Nations, Focus would have suffered more out of focus than it actually did.

So we thought it would be OK to let the Beatles emerge to amuse our young, who seemed to be out of Wack and stumbling. The Rolling Stones. Elvis. Yeah, what the hell, a little bit of screaming and shouting will get rid of their sullen attitudes.

Boy, did it get rid of their sullen attitudes.

They grabbed the reins, whipped the horses up, snorted powders and drugs of all kinds, and slipped into the Hippy Love Culture.

Which would have been alright only all the touchstones of a quieter Social System had been abandoned by the young and not enforced by the Elders.

So the Sixties. Teachers in classrooms all over the Western World became Left Wing Hippies overnight. ""Tell your Parents to get Stuffed, old Farts as they are "".

So the Youth did exactly that.

All that was 50 years ago.

And we are still clearing up the Mess.

I am not Billie Graham. I am westwind. I lived through nearly all of the above statements. So for what it's worth, here is my considered message to the young people of today. Relax, be kind to yourselves, think about things happening in your neck of the woods, ask Questions, still be determined to make up your own minds, but let those minds be informed by facts.

We are turning the corner from the undisciplined progress that has ruled for almost 100 years now. There is no going back. History will not repeat itself. The way is Forward, and Thank the Communication Systems for that.

The Times now are becoming Urgent. Urgent that we commence saving The Planet. Urgent that we look at how we are raising our children. Urgent that we finally open our eyes real wide and actually get our priorities sorted.

A more settled fairer World is almost within our grasp. It will take a little understanding by the majority at first, but I have detected the first signs that common sense is slowly seeping past all the containment lines that those with selfish interests surrounded themselves with.

It's a sweet or sweeter air that I smell, this air of common sense that can no longer be controlled and manipulated.

So take westwinds train into the Future. When we have worked out where our Destination holds promise of better understanding. We are pausing now, to take breath, to neaten up our lives, and by example then we will decide our Future. westwind.

Oh, come on. I was in school in the 60s. This just did not happen.

My husband was a schoolteacher in the 60s. He was certainly a bit of a hippie - a beard!, no tie! - but no, he didn't do that and neither did anyone else.

adelady- I concede I made a generalisation statement concerning the schools and Administration of the 60's. But when the future Teachers and Administrators were selected for the late 60's. and then the Seventies, they came from the Hippie Generation. ( there were three or four that didn't), .

adelady, I need more viewers for this Thread, it is important to me. It's most likely one of my better contributions to TSF. My heart and Soul and what little brain power that I can muster up has been thrown into it.

You will not have so clearly defined some of the Social Education Needs we should be looking at as we progress into the 21 Century.

Clearly defined information as, I hope this Thread is, is not readily available every day.

I appreciate you are not in a position to make TSF read my Thread. That;s given. And also, if I cannot get Member participation for discussion on this type of input I wonder whose at fault here? I do not want to be the only one with ideas such as presented. God help us. At least lets have some criticism. If only to tell old westwind to pull his head in and go play with his trains.. westwind.

    in the rural midwest
    we hadn't a clue........
when we could drive, we'd drive 30 miles to drive up and down the main drag of a local town
    meet other teens
    then go home
we thought having an occasional beer was pretty wild
I made a small still and brewed some really nasty stuff--------and drank it with a couple friends and puked

then college at oklahoma university(the buckle of the bible belt)
the first "lefty" i met was a professor of political science there
    then the army
the first guy to flash me a peace symbol was my comanding officer(col. Holden-who"loved a volunteer" = me)

the 60s were over by the time i got out of the army, and I seemed to have missed them
    or
as ww described them, they just weren't where i was when i was there
