I am sure this topic must have been covered before but can I ask it?

Suppose you lose your memory does that equate (on a subjective level at any rate ) to the death of the individual?
I know there was a program on the TV about someone who had no memory of near events (maybe 5 seconds or so as I recall) but this was not the same as total memory loss.

Could it be that memory is so fundamental that total memory loss (ie instantaneous loss) is never found and so the question is purely hypothetical or theoretical?

To invert the question would the resurrection of memory (possibly in a donor recipient) equate to the resurrection of the dead ( or still living )memory donor?

Reality is complex and multidimensional(multiple aspects to what we consider to be one thing), memory is a big part of our identity so subjectively is close to death but it isnt death, since there are many aspects to the person. For loved ones the fact you forget everything is a huge blow, but if you start again its better than nothing. If you start again, learn first aid and save someone's life that person will probably be happy that you continued to live. Imo resurection of memory is in part resurection, if you could have the memories of a volunteer uploaded into an digital avatar in a simulated world and could talk with them thru skype it would be neat for some people.

Define Conciousness and what makes it exist and I'll get back to you.

I am not going to try and define "Consciousness" - only what I think I had in mind when I wrote it (if that's OK).
So I think I meant self awareness (does that help?)

^No it doesn't, sorry. I was thinking more along the lines of these two sections from my theory notes.

    2.A. Theory - Conversion Triggers -?

    - Wants/Needs

    - How many of these processes can a mind handle?

    - Levels of "power"? -yes chemical based

    - inerchanging catalysts?

    - conflicting?

    - chemical to make memory
    - chemical to store memory
    - dual purpose? -yes

Trigger to chemical... Is there a chemical that could define conciousness?

    2.B. Manipulation of Conversion Triggers

    - chemical based

    - relation between humans and animals?

    - chemicals filtered through DNA? (unused strands)

    - can being sense said chemicals naturally?

    - catagorized as?

    - if true, could we be designed?
    - extinct humans?
    - purpose of recreation?

    - could chemicals be combined? (Biology... DNA lengths)

    - Evolution of Inteligent Design
I think your question fits inbetween these two sections but it is up to you to interpret them how you see fit.
