I've grown to have a good respect for a few members on this forum, and you - Arcane_Mathematician, are one of the first of these, yet are we really about correcting language/spelling/grammar/nuance/etc., or about communication and learning from each other in ways that would not have been possible without the the efforts of development that went into computers, the internet and sites such as this.
I, like others, have had my doubts about husband from day one, for his method of writing seems uneducated and therefore totally out of sync with his undoubted intelligence and clarity of reasoning; but then I chose to look past the imperfections (even if they were deliberate) and focus upon anything else on offer, and now have to say - there is a great deal more on offer - as is the case also with yourself.
On the other hand, other members write well enough, yet their posts offer far less reasoning worth listening to/communicating with.
So I guess you can choose an alternative focus, but for mine - as long as I understand it, I am delighted to 'listen' to intelligent reasoning from wherever it may emanate, even if it comes to me in an entirely uneducated cloaking.
The persistent use of imperfections in every post, thread and forum (this is not his only target) is rude and ignorant. You are either a native English speaker, or someone who has developed excellent fluency in the language. For those struggling to work in a foreign language his posts are pure gibberish. He does himself and this forum no favours by being a self indulgent prat.
If the style is a consequence of dyslexia, or some similar condition then politeness alone would require him to use a spellchecker on each post. His failure to do so affirms the notion that, whether or not he is a clueless husband, he is certainly a rude bastard.

Well... i see my ignorin such coments an gonna help get this thred bak on track... so long story made short... my postin style is me an ive perty much been me all my life (almos 60)... lol... but i quit school in 9th grade an typin wasnt offered until 10th grade so i taut myself how to type (wit 3 fangers an my thums) when i started postin in webtv (fire-walled) groops about 12 year ago an luckly for me spellin an gramer wasnt big issues... i never was a good speller... an usin spell check is a prollem cause i then have to use a dictonary to deside which word the spell checker offers is the corect word... an then i have to cc&p the word i deside to use cause if i dont i will surly mispell it agan (to me... tryin to remenber the order of letters in a word is much like tryin to remenber a sequence of numbers) so if i had to do that to all my posts i woudnt post at all... so the way i post is much like the way i talk an is comfortable for me... an if me an my postin style ant welcom here by the owners of this groop i will leave.!!!

His excuses is also pisspoor due to the fact that while he understands what we write perfectly well, he chooses to write in a fashion that makes it difficult to understand at times, and blatantly confusing to what words he actually wants to use at other times. Learning to spell is an essential tool to written communication, and he outright refuses to learn.No offense to cluelesshusband but I have to agree with this.

I've just had a quick look through a few of your posts, and it would be apparent that even if you don't feel a spellchecker is too helpful in your case for whatever reason, it would indeed go some way to cleaning up your errors, and whichever way you look at it, they are errors.
For instance, your 'esample' would show up as an error, with a few options, but only one of these looks close to how you verbalise it - example, and with your ''ther', again there is only one option - there.
So come on now! You are clearly no dullard, so put some of the obvious intelligence you enjoy into helping to support those among us who are already struggling with the language - as Ophiolite has mentioned - being an aspect I had not previously considered.
Clueless husband, here is a post of yours cleaned up in almost exactly one minute using a spellchecker.

In most of the remaining cases the option was obvious. In short your excuse is ill founded and I am of the definite opinion that your entire posting style is deliberately contrived. All you need do to convince me otherwise is to take the short amount of time necessary to run a spell check on your future posts. Failure to do so in will rightly be seen as a deliberate insult to forum members.

Since you purposely re-typed "esample" rather than "example" in the post above, you are clearly acting and having a piss at our expense. You have your decision to make.
This is an interesting occurrence within a philosophy section of the forum. Just by observing the picture clueless uses as an avatar paired with the terrible grammar one either concludes that this person is without education or understanding of the english language or someone looking to provoke a response. Considering that spellcheck is built in and that good points were made by the person in question one can assume clueless is looking to provoke controversy.
Not necessarily a bad thing if it gets people fired up and thinking. Oftentimes discord and chaos bring out very interesting and viable ideas. For example, trolling in a philosophy forum does potentially demonstrate freewill and reaction to cultural biases created by repeating collective thought patterns. It also is a perfect demonstration on the need for authority to maintain order within a given structure, lack of authority could potentially lead to entropy of the forum and dissolution of a meeting place to speak of the very things that this thread represents.
Clueless, I would love to hear your interpretation of all this, preferably in understandable english! 8)

The first time you see it, although painful, you are mildly entertained. Soon, however, it becomes tedious and thoughts of infantacide emerge.

Simply because it split off from a thread in this section and a mod placed it in the same section.
I split this off from the 'Breakdown' thread so discussion could continue there, and since the majority of concerns were from members who regularly post in Philosophy, I thought it an appropriate place to leave the split for comments until a consensus is reached.
Leave the guy alone. Even if it's a yokel act, and I'm not sure it is, he's no more annoying than half the other members around here.
Whilst I will always support the provider/s of a site such as this to make their own decisions in driving their own ship - as it were; generally for the service of the rest of us, I must say it would certainly be a disappointment to me if this negative focus has the effect of driving clueless away.
I have found him to possess a level of open humility and genuinely unimpeded inquisitiveness which is quite a contrast to what we usually find around these environs - as they are, with (too many) members locked into bromidic and gloomy pathways of perception based upon conventional yet seemingly narcoleptic reasoning, generally buttressed by a liberal splash of arrogant swagger. Of course, they would disagree, being clearly a definition of such condition.
Even though I feel it may well be unlikely after all this, I am hopeful that the genuine humility Clueless enjoys will permit and support him to rise above such adverse furor in a manner that I would certainly find exceptionally difficult.
In my opinion, we need more of his ilk in this aphotic world, and particularly on sites such as this.

It isn't as if we banned the guy straight out. His account is still active, actually. But he was given a choice: either drop the yokel act, or post intelligibly.
And it is an act. Or at least its a condition he can quite easily overcome with the addition of spellcheck. He claims to use WebTV. WebTV has a spellchececker built in.
In addition, he very clearly wanted to misspell his words. This is evident in several cases where all he had to do is type what he just quoted. Instead, he purposely misspelled, ostensibly to enhance his "yokel persona." Indeed, there was at least two posts in which none of his words were misspelled, so he clearly had the ability.
We already have many members for whom English is a second language and they are already struggling to participate (on the other hand, we have several for whom English is not their native language who write better than I!). This isn't a general interest forum rather it's a niche forum that has a focus on science. Clear, rational communication is a central theme to a such a discussion forum.
The request to clueless was not unreasoned or unfair. I'm sure he's a very nice person. I mean him no ill-will. But more than a few members were bothered and annoyed by his act.
I plead guilty to the accusation of prejudice. I have witnessed clueless husband's incoherent fakery on another forum. I took a considerable time there before reaching the conclusion that he was - at worst - deliberately playing the role of a country bumpkin or - at best - was rudely refusing to make use of a spellchecker. So when I saw his posts here I had indeed prejudged him.

He did show his intelligence. It was quite clear inthe subtlety of some of his arguments. That removes any excuse he has for writing like an idiot. If he were an idiot his writing style would be tolerable. It is not acceptable as an affectation. As I have pointed out before this makes it difficult for the significant number of forum members who are non-native English speakers.

Self-honesty is such an important ingredient in the make-up of the person we are, especially when we seek to deal in any way with others. Yet it can be such a bitch to feed. Indeed, we all like to be seen by those around us as entirely honest, yet can we truly expect this result when it is not the fundamental manner in the way we relate to self??
I mean, if I'm not honest with self, can I truly expect others to relate to me as being honest with them??? Even so, failure to support the intrinsic animal that self-honesty is, as Ophiolite explains; is constantly demeaning to self and others - for the above reason and so many more;
On the other hand, and I almost posted this a couple of weeks ago; someone may promote themself as uneducated in the hope that they might not be asked too many delving questions - which may have less to do with their lacking in answers, than a lacking in self-assurance to locate and/or logically explain those answers that may arise at any time.
Either way, it would appear the individual would be best encouraged to extend themself for their own sake as well as their audience. But then you come up against the question of perhaps further damaging a previously harmed being.
