Is life really determined by the two forces of luck and bad luck? Or is life's turn of events always in the hands of those living?

Does luck determine our fates, or are we our own problems and solutions?

    Luck...a figment of wishful thinking?
    Luck....an irreversible force?

Believing in luck (both types) myself, I can't say that I believe it is the force that dominates everything in my life. My own personal notion of luck is 'a string of coincidences that either benefit or unfortuanate one's life.

Or is life's turn of events always in the hands of those living?
Yes of course it is. But when we make actions that influence the world around us, we cannot know the big picture, that picture being every single event that will occur due to our actions. So this action may produce something unknown and that coupled with other actions or other's actions will create what we percieve as 'luck'. For instance, in a casino. When playing roulette, you don't know it will land on red or black, but say it lands on red three times and you bet red three times. You'd say good luck was on your side, but if you bet on the other after losing and the opposite came true, you'd say bad luck. So what I'm saying here is that if you knew what the outcome would be, it wouldn't be luck would it? Luck is a favourable (or not so favourable) coincidence that explains something we cannot.

Does luck determine our fates, or are we our own problems and solutions?
Both. We can solve our own problems and make our own solutions. But sometimes if something is too difficult and we simply cannot solve them. the solutions sometimes just fall into our hands. Something will happen that will tell us what to do. So that being luck as I said earlier sometimes shapes our fate yes. But I have to say, haven't you noticed luck is, uncanny sometimes?

    Luck...a figment of wishful thinking?
    Yeah, blind hope.

    Luck....an irreversible force?
If it is a force it has never been investigated scientifically yet. Remember though it is just statistical improbability that favours or does not favour. Or is it? You decide.

I think that you make your own luck, as in if you are optimistic and expect something good to happen then you are more likely to notice it when it does happen. The same goes for bad luck, if you walk around expecting the sky to fall in then in my opinion you'll begin to see bad things happening all over the place.

I'm not sure if there's a scientific definition of luck so I'll make one up : The unexpected occurrence of an event that is perceived by the subject as being either fortuitous or disadvantageous.... you heard it here first!
    Dramatisation; may not have happened.

    How about this:

A string of occurrences that follow a pattern differing from the expected or norm.
    Good luck=beneficial occurrences
    Bad Luck=harmful occurrences

luck is just the outcome of an event that is favourable to you, seem as though there are lots of different paralell universes (maybe) I guess in one you could be lucky all the time, wouldn't that be great

We find organisation everywhere, we have no reason to postulate luck as an "in-the-world" phenomenon. Patterns aren't easy to see without a frame of reference, and that's probably why we can't see our own patterns clearly.
Luck is a tricky thing to define aswell, because of the subjective nature of its content.
