My idea is that all science comes from science fiction... here is a chat I had with my friend about it.

"kingnimara: There was that one “guy who thought the earth was round”
    kingnimara: the church disagreed
kingnimara: and wanted to burn “The guy who thought the earth was round”
kingnimara: “The guy who thought the earth was round” decided to say that the earth isn't round cuz he was gonna get burned if he continued believing what he believed
kingnimara: during his time the statement "the earth is round" is science fiction
kingnimara: some time later ppl realize that the earth is round
kingnimara: and then it became science
    kingnimara: ok now einstein
kingnimara: einstein said that there is relativity everywhere
kingnimara: he said that the speed of light must have no mass
kingnimara: even though we accept this and read this in our science book, it is still science fiction
kingnimara: cuz no one has proven it
    kingnimara: not yet anyhow...
    kingnimara: ok now the taoist
kingnimara: Lao Tze said that there is some kinda force all around us
    *********: chi?
kingnimara: I am beginning to realize that ppl thought he was crazy
kingnimara: and we can say that this force is science fiction
*********: chi and atoms are diffrent tho
    kingnimara: how so?
    kingnimara: not chi'
    *********: chi was somthign harnessalbe
kingnimara: i realize now that chi' and taoism have nothing to do with each other
kingnimara: if u read the “Tao te Ching”, Lao Tze says nothing about chi'
kingnimara: anyhow, this force was scifi in his time
*********: was he talking about air?
kingnimara: not many ppl believed him and ppl thought he was crazy
    *********: or Gravity
kingnimara: no one really knows what this "secret mother of all of us" was
    kingnimara: until the Greeks
kingnimara: They realized that there something around us called "atomos"
kingnimara: from the greeks on it became known as science
kingnimara: did any of what I said make sense?
    *********: ya
kingnimara: I've have always thought that tao means atoms
kingnimara: i think in his time "Tao" was scifi
kingnimara: but like most scifi it became science
kingnimara: Which happened in the Greek time"

If you don't believe me post scientific discoveries, and I can tell you some point in history when that belief was science fiction.

Another great example would be going to the moon... self explanitory...

Well how about when fire was invented by humans? rthere wasn't any science fiction around when that happened was there? Then how about boats, there weren't any boats then someone built one without science fiction either. There are many things that were invented without science fiction and those two things are just the tip of the iceberg.

Science fiction is a story in which the plot development is dependent in some way upon some aspect of science, science theory, scientific method or scientists. Please tell me the author and title of the science fiction story that was based on the above?
[By the way the above appears to be a corrupted version of the trial of Galileo, who did not want to follow the way of Bruno, who was burnt at the stake. Galileo, however, was in trouble for declaring the Earth moved around the sun, not for saying it was round. He spent most (all?) of the rest of his life under house arrest.]
You seem to confusing, perhaps deliberately, speculation and hypothesis with fiction. They really are not the same thing at all.

Hmm i see what you guys are saying. I was thinking of it as a way of explaining the past, and how maybe things in history are related from science fiction to science. That day I was sort of confused from what I learned in my class. Things didn't make sense. Sorry I spread the confusion onto the forum. Thanks for clearing it up for me.

Where I think you are right Nima, and what may have induced your initial confusion, is that novel science concepts and good science fiction arguably both arise from the same source: the inquisitive human imagination.
In one instance the scientist is using that skill/drive to investigate the world, deriving hypotheses that may not sit well with established, less imaginative, opinion.
In the second case, the writer is constructing a logical alternative reality, that may not sit well with those who prefer trite romances that mirror daily life.

Yeah Im pretty sure most of our success in the development of our age in information and science in the industry have all come about from some persons hypothetical theory on why and how something works.

Imagination, its not just pictures on walls and hippies expressing their inner most desires.

You should look into theoretical physics, its really just science based on all the standing physical laws of our universe mixed in with some amazing imaginations. Its just like the common ground between science fiction and fiction just waiting to be proven.
