I know the media and so called " top scientists" believe that the earth is warming up, but since I rarely agree with the media and I believe that people should do their own research, I have been doing some research on the subject for about a while now and I have come up with 2 conclusions or hypotheses that both have something to do with the magnetosphere. I would like to know what the community thinks is more plausible between the 2 ideas.

    1. I believe the earth is warming up because the weakening magnetosphere is slowly stripping the atmosphere causing the earth to warm up due to the exposure to increased radiation.
    2. I believe the earth is cooling down because the weakening magnetosphere is slowly stripping the atmosphere causing the earth to cool down because the heat from the sun is unable to be trapped by any means.

There is little to choose between the two ideas, since they are both wrong.

It is infra red radiation that warms the Earth up and that would not be affected by the "magnetosphere".

I think we would know very quickly if we were losing atmosphere. The CO2 as well as other gases which are regularly measured would be going down.

The only gas we are losing is helium. The Earth only has a set amount and it is important in some fields of science, notably cryogenics. The biggest source of waste is children's balloons, believe it or not.

I actually don't believe it. None of what you've said, given your posting history here, actually. Can you please share citations for your several claims above? I'll gladly change my mind if provided adequate reason to do so.

He's entire right but the time span is all wrong. At the current rate we're loosing hydrogen..aka water, the sun will engulf our planet as it goes red giant before our atmosphere is depleted enough for concern. It's more than billion years from now.

He presents two mutually exclusive alternatives and you say he is entirely right! Too much too drink over New Year?
