Quebec is the first province in Canada that passes such a bill. Bill 52 ('An Act respecting end-of-life care') took almost 2 years to pass, but it passed yesterday.
Bill 52, which has many similarities with the Belgian Act on Euthanasia, is summarized as follows:
In order to request this medical care, one must be at least 18 years, able to give full consent and you suffer from a serious and incurable condition that causes constant and unbearable physical or psychological that cannot be relieved adequately according to the patient (Art. 26).[It] allows for and outlines under which conditions terminally ill Quebecers can request to receive medical aid in dying. The main indicator for requesting medical aid in dying is "an incurable disease, an incurable illness, which is causing unbearable suffering."
Although I could not make up from the news article if other parts in Canada will follow, I am confident that Quebec has taken a step forward.
