I saw an action movie where a whole lot of grenades were thrown into a plane. I sort of cringed as I watched, thinking the first would blow the rest all over the place, including back at those who threw them (it didn't in the movie) - then wondered if in the real world that was what would happen or if the first blast would set the others off. Anyone know?

    What kind of grenade?
Identification of the type of grenade, whether fragmentation, concussion, or chemical, will slightly change the scenario, but in almost all cases, the answer is no.
Most military explosives are difficult to set-off accidentally, and the explosion would most likely just push the other grenades away from the first.
An incendiary grenade might be able to do it, but at that point, why? They aren't meant to take down aircraft. You would be better off throwing an actual anti-vehicle grenade, or another larger explosive, rather than lots of little ones.

So in real life this would almost certainly endanger the idiots who threw all those grenades - presumably those trained in the use of real grenades would be aware of the dangers of multiple grenades used on the same target? It was one of the Die Hard sequels I think, with a plane on the runway with doors open but I'm sure I've seen similar scenarios in other action movies as well. The opportunity for a huge on-screen explosion undoubtedly took precedence over correctly portraying what such actions would actually do. I find it hard to sit through those kinds of movies at all anymore.

Yeah, me too XD. Once you learn the truth, a lot of Hollywood tropes are hard to sit through.
