Heres an idea i've had for a little while.

Say there a foreign leader, dictator, diplomat, etc, that "The Powers That Be," whoever they may be, wanted "removed," but could not airstrike him off the face of the earth, or assassinate him for political reasons and the obvious suspicion that would be directed in their direction. Would it be possible for a satellite of some sort, to direct a beam of focused radiation down upon the target, causing cancer, removing the target, not immediately, of course, but with less suspicion than a bomb or bullet?

I know it sounds sadistic, but would it be feasible/economical/possible?

No, not really. There are more immediate ways, like sabotaged car or crazed individual with a gun-- and no association with anyone.
But how to craze the individual and control them at once? Or just hire someone, and let them "escape" wherever they are detained.
But not radiation from space. You could, however, fire a meteor from space, right onto a speech platform.
Or release a wild dog with rabies and lace him with some subtle scent the dog is trained to attack (as an alternative to poison), or sabotage a gas pipe and give his house "roof in basement" syndrome.

Well my point is, if this individual is a clear enemy of the US, or NATO, a crazed man with a gun would look rather suspicious. Cancer can happen to anyone it, it would seem to most, and this would look less suspicious.

So, the idea is to zap him with a low-powered phaser and blame it on Captain Kirk ?

Haha, more or less. But cancer is less conspicuous than a bullet, no?

Whatever it is, a satellite would need a lot of power, or depleted uranium, to get a beam of concentrated radiation at a distance of 50-90 miles. So no, probably not feasible.
I don't see how a clinically insane individual is suspicious (apart from the obvious ways).

Why use a satellite? I think most of the beams you're talking about are invisible to the naked eye. Why not just put a sniper outside his house and blast him from there? Disguise the weapon as a camera, so your operative has plausible deniability if he/she is caught. He/she could just claim to be paparazzi taking a photograph.

The dead give away would be if the beam weren't tightly constrained enough, so it hit multiple targets and they all started getting cancer at the same time. I think someone would figure what was happening then.
Some clocks are only right twice a day, but they are still right when they are right.
