How effective do you think that would be? How likely do you think a terrorist is to leave a traceable scent behind during an attack, and could it be isolated well enough, and reliably enough for a dog to find them again when they meld back into the population?

Maybe if one of them was wounded and left some blood behind? (I'm not sure if blood really carries your scent, though.) We'd probably get somewhere if they left a limb behind, but then they'd probably die (or retire).

Maybe we could consider releasing suspected terrorist captives after a dog has reliably locked onto their scent, and hopefully track them to see where they go afterwards? Or maybe take scent information from people we wouldn't even be detaining (perhaps for lack of evidence), but who seem to have some terrorist connections, and see where it leads us?

Right, but we've got to find them first.
