    Hello one and all,
I am looking for any advice, guidance or pointers surrounding the topic of a DIY bioreactor. The bioreactor does not need to be industrial size or grade and to contextualise, would be used to grow and harvest enough recombinant insulin producing yeast to produce enough insulin for an individual or small community containing individuals with type 1 diabetes. No small contribution or tid-bit of info would go unappreciated as I am beginning here with a lot of knowledge around biology/biotech but little-to-no knowledge of engineering. Materials, pumps, internal/external pressures, filters, nutrient mixtures, filtration processes post cultivation, time-scales, energy requirements. Literally anything provided would be greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely
    OJ

Manufacturing your own insulin is essentially impossible. The technology and expertise needed is way beyond what a nonexpert can do.

"essentially impossible"? What a ridiculous statement and poor attitude to have. Define an "expert" and contrast that with a "non-expert"? Where would some-one with an education and several years experience multiple lab-based pharmaceutical settings fit into those definitions? I asked for any knowledge that could be provided not unsolicited negativity.

Welcome to reality. Why do you think there are so few suppliers of insulin? It is because of the difficulty of making it.

    - "Welcome to reality" Jesus you come across as infantile and arrogant. Suppliers of insulin? I'm not considering producing it for mass production as part of a profitable business model. I'm not interested in setting up shop in the pharma industry Did you read the initial post properly or? I also love how you go from "virtually impossible" to "very difficult" haha, I'm glad I'm having a positive effect on you but feel free to take that away and contribute to a thread you'd actually be useful in friend.

Could it be something to do with PH balances? Relative pressures? Perhaps the effect of light or the metals used and how they interact with the yeast? The composition of the gaseous sections of the system. The potential corrosive effect of constituents and by-products? The re-usability and shelf-life of the components themselves, Temperature? Waste disposal? The purification processes? Nutrient requirements? Storage conditions for the insulin? Additives for long-term storage? Would some sort of automated agitation of the culture be beneficial? Or is a static system preferable? Gosh, the staggering amount of variables and factors involved make me wish I could just enjoy a thought experiment involving play-dough or a an electric toilet-roll dispenser. You're right, better just to quit thinking about it altogether....
