How in Hell did Grosjean escapes practically unscathed? Luck, engineering or both?

Have heard he hit rails with over 50G's of force but car was equipped with latest safety device called the Halo which protected his head, keeping him from having it taken off or being knocked unconscious. The guardrails I thought were designed to have cars slide along them after impact but this car tore through it. I think the fireball should be investigated because it's my thinking that the cars are designed to limit gas tank explosions/fires. A crash like this will probably result in more improvements but at least this time a driver didn't die. One lucky SOB. Time for engineers to go to work.
