Converting UK bike pump into a vacuum pump. Which pump to buy?

I have a feeling most modern bike pumps can't be unscrewed. Apparently bike pumps with pressure gauges cannot be used.

Has anyone in the UK done this? Which shop did you go to and hwo did you convert into a vacuum pump?

    Cheers.

As I recall this from about 40 years ago, one unscrewed the barrel, removed the plunger from the rod, and reattached it facing the wrong way round so that the leather washer, which acted as a one-way valve, made the pump suck instead of blowing.

It seems to me that if you can no longer dismantle the pump, you cannot do it.

But it is a bit much to call it a "vacuum" pump, I think.
