Hi there,
When I accelerate from a stop I hear a loud clunking noise coming from the engine compartment. What might be the problem?
Thanks

If it's just one loud CLUNK!, it might be a loose, damaged engine mount, and when you accelerate from a stop, the torque produced by the engine might be enough to cause the engine twist about its other engine mount (Newton's opposite and equal reaction) and bang into something.
Man....you hope it's a engine mount....because pretty much anything else that can go clunk in the engine compartment comes from the inside of the engine. Mechanics love the clunk sound...it generally means money and lots of it.![]()
Have some one sit in the car while you watch the engine, have them hold the brake and put car in gear and punch the throttle SLIGHTLY, if the engine bucks up slightly,
you have a broken motor mount
If you hear a loud clunking noise when you accelerate from a stop, you probably forgot to open your garage door.
