It would sure solve many of our world's problems if we had engines that run on water. Nearly everyone on the planet could have much more cheap and affordable electricity. Why is it so difficult to have an engine that runs off water? Is water not good enough to ever power much of anything or do we just not have the technology?

Firstly, if you're talking about a standard internal combustion engine, water will not work because it does not produce an energetic reaction in the presence of a spark. It doesn't combust.

Secondly, water in an engine would not be practical in many parts of the world as you seem to think. Strain on water resources is already extremely high in many places and diverting that water to power some energy-producing process might not be feasible.

Finally, we do get energy from water. We use tidal generators to get energy from natural tidal forces and, unfortunately, we still dam rivers for power as well.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that you could run an engine on water. Maybe it was from one of those crank "overunity" web sites. You can make hydrogen from water by electrolysis, then you can run an engine on hydrogen. However it will take more energy to make the hydrogen than you will get back by burning it. It violates the law of conservation of energy to think you can get free energy from this process. It isn't a matter of technology, it's a basic law of thermodynamics.

We do. They are called steam engines. All modern nuclear and combined cycle power plants run on water as a working fluid. (Of course they also need a heat source, like a nuclear reactor or a coal furnace.)

Water cannot power anything. It's just a compound. It's especially stable, which means it is difficult to react it with anything to get more energy. You could, I suppose, react it with sodium to get energy, but then you need water AND sodium.

Wow thanks for properly informing me. There is so many people who have talked about this like it is in the near future. I probably shouldn't listen to the people who say the oil companies are suppressing technology like that xD. Conspiracy theorist seemed to be pretty uninformed.

Is this nonsense? I was just asking an honest question. If I go about posting what do you feel like I should consider next time I do it?

Moderator Comment: Members are asked not discuss moderator actions in the thread they occur. If you disagree with an action you have several options:
    1. Report the post in order to bring it to the attention of the rest of the mod team.
    2. Contact the moderator by pm to discuss the issue.
    3. Contact other mods/admins by pm to discuss the issue.
    4. Take a deep breath and move on.

The other members were reacting to the pointless posts you were making. It is a forum rule that assertions need to be supported. You were breaking forum rules. They were pointing that out.

If you have issues with this use one of the four methods noted above.

Moderator Action: You were specifically advised that any comments on moderator actions were not to be raised in the subject thread. You have blatantly disregarded this. If you were trying to provoke a reaction you have succeeded. When and if you return I suggest you follow the advise that was previously communicated to you by pm. The mod team can barely keep up with the complaints we are receiving about you.

    One week suspension.
