When reading about the manufacturing of lateral-flow diagnostic tests, the term "web-based" apears, as in "web-based (reel-to-reel) manufacturing processes". What does it mean?

It seems to be an assembly line kind of process where things like diagnostic test strips or electronic items are assembled on a moving belt of material. Have a look at this video.

I've figured that much, but the "web based" part still puzzles me. My first language is not english and this is a technical term, I need it's equivalent or explanation, because the dictionaries are useless in this case.

Alternatively, it could be a manufacturing process which is controlled/monitored through a web (browser) interface? Without seeing the context, it is hard to know.

    Addendum...

This appears to be the context: Lateral-flow assays: Designing for automation | IVD Technology

In which case, Harold is correct. Although the link is slightly borked: Web (manufacturing) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
