Hi, I am trying to find out the name of the science or technology that is working on being able to transfer a humans entire conscienceness into a form of electronic media, such as a computer chip or dvd. Can anyone tell me??? Thanks.

    I read the wikipedia article.

I quote you Clarke's Third Law
"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. "

You see, I was right.

Thanks, nanotechnology it is. It's hard to find out much about this aspect of it, but Kurzweil seems to be the authority right now. He says we are within 20 years of being able to use reverse engineering to uncover the software design of the human brain. I'd much rather be on a dvd and shed this biochemical meatsuit.

Because humans are sentient and computers are not, as yet.

Of course there is always the possibility that everything that "exists" in the entire "universe" is in your mind. In fact, you may have come into existance just a minute ago with all your present memories intact.

My question, although presented with humerous overtones, was a serious one. How do you know you (and the whole Universe)are not a computer simulation on a vast computer in someone elses universe? I can't prove it, but can you disprove it?

I'm not sure. I may just be very devious at it and have been unable to catch myself at it yet.

i guess you can't be sure until you see it for yourself, hten we come into an endless sequence of universes that may or may not be computer simulations.

    we will never know.

i guess in a way we are machines, after all biological proccess are some of the most energy efficient mechanisims we know of.
