Hello, could anybody refer literature that deals with the mathematical properties of the solutions of the models used (existence, uniqueness, bifurcations etc). I know that the Navier Stokes equation is widely used, however, its solution is still an outstanding question....

As unknown_artist advises, it may be useful for you to study the general topic of differential equations. Solutions always are specific and sensitive to the boundary conditions imposed. There is generally no single, universal solution.
