How do you find the total length of intersection between two planes. For example, in my textbook there is a question : Describe the intersection of the sphere x^2+y^2+z^2=1 and the elliptic cylinder x^2+2z^2=1. Find the total length of this intersection curve. Can anyone please tell me how to do this?

    Thank you

Solve the set of simultaneous equations for the equation of the intersection set (in this case take equation 2 and subtract it from equation 1, solve for z)

As is often the case with technical subjects we are presented with an unfortunate choice: an explanation that is accurate but incomprehensible, or comprehensible but wrong.
