    I'm not quite sure if this is what you are after, but there are two ways to construct a Hilbert curve. One is to start with the basic shape and then replace each edge with a smaller version of the shape. The other is to start with a shape and then grow the curve using rotated copies of it; and then do the same with that curve and so on.
