You can make plots of at most 3 dimensions, so the axes would represent two independent variables and one dependent variable. Otherwise we are restricted to generating one plot per independent variable, or if you really want you can generate a 3d plot for every combination of two dependent variables. Such 3D plots are seldom useful for representing information, probably best left for representing spatial data.

I'm trying to determine the total cost and have three variables that are affecting the total cost. E.g. calls, sms and data traffic are variables affecting the total cost of using mobile phones. How to show graphically how a change or changes of those variables are affecting the total cost?

You could make families of curves. On a 2-d plot you could show cost versus, say calls, for some fixed value of sms and data traffic. Then you could make more 2-d plots for different values of data traffic, keeping the same sms, giving you a family of curves. Then you could make another similar plot for a different sms. You could put the sms on the z-axis, but I think that would start to get cluttered and confusing.

If I've understand you correctly, you are basically saying that, in first case, I should change only one variable (calls), and SMS and data traffiy are fixed, in second changing SMS (calls and data traffic are fixed) and in third, changing data traffic only?
I apologize for making beginners questions, it's been 7-8 years I studied math and now I need to refresh and to extend my knowledge. ;-)
