    Okay so I know this is very simple and the answer is probably sitting in front of me, but oh well! I'm confused!

    Well, that's simple enough but it's easily manipulated to be:

    And then it doesn't seem to make sense?

    Something similar is encountered during multiplication:

    Could someone explain this to silly me?

    Basically, infinity isn't a number and can't be used in normal algebra.
